Titans Open Season With 3-1 Victory in THS Tournament of Champions

The Tuscarora Titans
opened the 2007 season with a 3-1 victory over
Eleanor Roosevelt in the THS Tournament of
Champions.
The Titans opened the scoring in the 20th minute when junior back
Melissa Sweeney began a
counterattack. After running 30 yards with the ball, she found
senior forward Courtney Yee on the
left flank. Yee beat the final defender and pushed the ball by the
oncoming Raider goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. in the 28th minute, senior
forward Natlaie Salovich
increased the Titans lead to 2-0 when she struck from 18 yards on an
assist from freshmen Claire Kelly.
Down 2-0, the Raiders responded with a strong second half and closed the
Titans lead to 2-1 in the 63rd minute. The Titans quickly
responded when freshmen Claire Kelly
made a solo run from 35 yards out, finishing the run with a breakaway
goal to ice the game at 3-1. The Titans continued to apply
pressure for the rest of the game with both junior
Danielle Roos and senior
Anna Morison striking the
crossbar.
For the game, the Titans outshot Eleanor Roosevelt 7-6. Junior
goalkeeper Sarah Maffei recorded
4 saves for the game.
In other Tournament of Champions action on Friday night, CM Wright
defeated Middletown 1-0.
