Titans Knockoff C. Milton Wright 2-1 in Tournament of Champions

September 5, 2009...  In the second game of the Tuscarora Tournament of Champions, the Titans faced perennial Baltimore area power C. Milton Wright, currently ranked #13 in the Baltimore Sun.  The Titans carried play from the start on the way to a 2-1 victory over the Mustangs.

Just two minutes in, the Titans almost capitalized on their first chance as junior midfielder Claire Kelly's volley off a corner kick rang the post.  This set the tone for an evening of dominance for the Titans as they outshot the Mustangs 16-3 for the game. Despite 9 shots in the first half, the game entered halftime knotted at 0-0.

The Titans pressure finally paid off when sophomore defender Kelsey Fletcher won a ball at midfield and played freshmen forward Aaran Parry in behind the defense.  Parry beat the Mustang keeper to the near post for the 1-0 lead.  The Titans continued to apply pressure throughout the half and added to the lead in the 59th minute when senior forward Michelle Rock received a throw-in from freshmen midfielder Holly Kipe and beat two defenders before beating the Mustang keeper from 10 yards out.

The Titans defense led by center backs Brittany Clemons and Annie Wickett led a strong effort in limiting the Mustangs to 3 shots for the game.  The Mustangs found their way back into the game in the 85th minute when a cross deflected off a Titans defender and into the net to close the lead to 2-1.  The Titans were never threatened as they gave up no shots in the second half and managed the remainder of the game to secure the victory.  Senior goalkeeper Sarah Jo Hayden recorded 2 saves for the game.
