Titans Shutout Westminster 2-0

September 8, 2009...  The Titans hosted the Westminster Owls on Tuesday evening, Earning a 2-0 victory. It was the seventh consecutive victory over the Owls dating to the 2004 season.

Just five minutes in, the Titans almost capitalized on their first chance as junior midfielder Claire Kelly's volley off a corner kick was saved by the Owl keeper.  The Owls put forth a strong effort as the teams battled evenly through the first forty minutes taking five shots each.

The Titans refocused at halftime and consistently pressured the Owls in the attacking half to take over the game.  For the second half, the Titans outshot the Owls 8-2.  Sophomore midfielder Katie King almost put the Titans on top in the 60th minute, but her drive from twenty yards was parried out of the upper ninety by the Westminster goalkeeper.  Just six minutes later, King got it right as she received a ball from Claire Kelly, beat an Owl defender and scored from just outside the penalty area.  Seven minutes later, King and Kelly reversed roles as King fed the ball to the junior midfielder who beat four Owl defenders before beating the Owl keeper from six yards to put the Titans up 2-0.

Senior goalkeeper Sarah Jo Hayden recorded four saves in the shutout effort.  Tuscarora returns to action on Thursday evening against 2008 State Semifinalist North Hagerstown.

The JV Titans dropped their season opener 3-2.  Freshmen Paighton Guglielmini and Miranda Malagari scored for the Titans while Ashley Babco added an assist.
