Titans Shutout Winters Mill 1-0
- Highlights coming soon
September
14, 2009...
The
Titans took to the road for the first time this season earning a 1-0
victory over Winters Mill.
The Titans struggled mightily in the first half as they attempted to
adjust to the narrow confines of the Winters Mill stadium. As a
result Winters Mill took control of most of the half. The Titans
defense was well organized though and only allowed two shots in the
half.
To begin the second half the Titans began to find their rhythm and began
finding their dangerous pair of strikers in senior
Michelle Rock and freshmen
Aaran Parry. Their
combinations and strong individual runs began finding holes in the
Falcon defense and led to a number of chances and restarts in the final
third. In the 57' minute, Parry took a direct kick from 25 yards
hitting a
bending, dipping ball that beat the keeper but struck the underside of
the crossbar. Despite the failed attempt the Titan pressure was on
and nine minutes later they scored the game winner when junior back
Annie Wickett played a ball
behind the Falcon defense which Parry jumped on and proceeded to chip
the keeper from 15 yards.
The Titans got strong contributions from the reserves as senior
midfielder Brittany Shankle
entered the game and brought a high level of composure and technique to
the field helping the Titans take control of the midfield. Senior
goalkeeper Sarah Jo Hayden
recorded four saves in the shutout effort.
The JV Titans improved to 1-1-1 on the season with a 1-1 tie against
Winters Mill.
