Head Coach -
Mark Wolcott
Coach Wolcott
has served as the Titans girls soccer coach since the school opened
in 2003.
At Tuscarora, the program has
quickly established itself as one of the elite programs in the state,
winning three state titles (2004, 2005, & 2009) in the programs
first six years
of varsity play. The Titans have accumulated a 74-24-3 record
in their first six years of varsity competition. At the end of
2009, the Titans were named the Frederick News-Post Girls Soccer
Program of the Decade.
In 2009, the Titans claimed their third state
championship winning the 3A State Title with a 2-1 victory over
Reservoir. The side completed the season with a 15-3-1 record and
ranked #5 in the Washington Post Top 10. Coach Wolcott was once
again given the Steve Midas Award by MACS as the State Girls Coach of
the Year. In addition, he was named the area coach of the year by
the Frederick News-Post and Frederick Gazette.
In 2007, the Titans finished the season with a
10-4-1 record before being eliminated from the playoffs in the 3A West
Region semifinals on penalties following a 1-1 tie. The Titans
carry one of the most challenging schedules in the state which included
a 2-1 victory over John Carroll, ranked #21 in the NSCAA/Adidas National
Poll. The 2006 season saw the Titans advance to their third
consecutive region final before being eliminated. The Titans
finished the year with a 12-5 record and the #1 ranking in the Frederick
News-Post.
In 2005, the Titans finished the
year ranked #23 in the NSCAA/Adidas National top 25 as they
completed the year with a 17-1 record, won the Class 3A State
Championship, the Class 3A West Region Title, and the MVAL
Chesapeake Conference Championship. Coach Wolcott was given
the 2005 Steve Midas Award by MACS as the State Girls Coach of the
Year and was named the All-Met Coach of the Year by the Washington
Post for the Titans success in 2005. He was also named area
Coach of the Year by The Frederick News-Post and the Frederick
Gazette.
In 2004, The Titans won the Class
1A State Championship with a 16-2 record in their first year of
varsity competition. The Titans also captured Regional and MVAL
Piedmont
Conference titles in 2004. For their efforts in 2004, Wolcott
was named the NSCAA/Adidas Maryland State Coach of the Year as well
as the Hagerstown Herald-Mail and Frederick Gazette Area Coach of
the Year.
Prior to coming to Tuscarora,
Wolcott served as a staff coach for the Thomas Johnson HS girls
soccer program. During his six years at Thomas
Johnson HS, Wolcott helped lead the Patriots girls
soccer team to 16 titles including 2 state titles, 4 regional titles, 6
County Championships, and 4 Conference Titles.
This time included top 20 NSCAA/Adidas National Rankings in 1997 and 1999.
Prior to arriving at Thomas Johnson,
Wolcott was head coach for the Frederick High boys soccer program from
1993-1996 and was named area and tri-state coach of the year in 1995 by the
Frederick News-Post and Hagerstown Herald-Mail.
Over the past 15 years, Wolcott has been
heavily involved in club soccer as a founder, president, and staff coach
with FC Frederick (formerly Frederick United SC) and currently is the
Seniors (U15-18) Director of Coaching for the club and coaches the U17 and
U16 girls teams. During this time, he has led many
Division I level club teams in play at the top events in the nation.
This included a State Championship and regional finalist appearance in 2002
at the U-17 level. The U-17 Sting finished the year ranked #5 in the
nation. In addition to the state championship, he has taken teams to 7
State Final and 6 State Semifinal appearances. Coach Wolcott also coached the U18
Northern Va. Majestics in the Super Y League National final four in 2005 and
has been on staff for FC Frederick's U-20 side in the Super Y League, which
advanced to the National final four in 2007. He has worked with more than 130 players in Club and High
School that have gone on to play at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels.
Wolcott is heavily involved in High School
soccer across the state. He is the Vice-President of the Maryland
Association of Coaches of Soccer (MACS), is on the MPSSAA Girls Soccer
State Committee, and is chairperson for the 3A West Region and MVAL
Piedmont Conference.
Born in Oakland, CA, Wolcott grew up in
Springfield, VA. He went on to play at Longwood University from 1988-1991 where he was a 2-year captain and team
MVP. Wolcott holds the USSF National "A" Coaching License
and the NSCAA Regional Goalkeeper Diploma.
He is also on staff at Tuscarora HS as the Physical Education Department
Chair.
Coach Wolcott resides in the Frederick area
with his wife, Karen, and sons Evan and Perry.
Varsity Assistant Coach -
Greg Chatfield
Coach Chatfield enters his sixth year with the Titans,
bringing a wealth of experience to the program. He served as the
Titans JV Coach for the first four years before moving to a full-time
varsity staff position in 2009. For six
years prior to joining the Titans, Chatfield served on the staff of the St. John's-Prospect Hall girls
soccer program, helping lead them to numerous IAAM league titles.
Coach Chatfield is also a longtime staff
coach for FC Frederick. He holds the USSF National "C" Coaching License.
His daughter Brittany was a starting back on the 2009 Titans State
Championship team.
Junior Varsity
Coach -
Samantha Roos
Coach Roos joined the Titans program in 2009 as the JV Coach and varsity
assistant. Her contributions made an immediate impact as she led the
JV Titans to their most successful season in program history and assisted
the Titans varsity side on their way to the 2009 State Championship.
In 2008. she completed her playing career at NCAA Division 1 Mount St.
Mary's University. As a youth player, she won eight consecutive State
Cup Championships as a player for the Bethesda Eclipse. Samantha
graduated from Frederick HS in 2004. Her younger sister, Danielle, was a
four year starter and All-State player for the Titans from 2005-08.
Varsity Assistant
Coach -
Kevin Weis
Coach Weis joins the Titans program for 2010 bringing a wonderful
knowledge and energy to Tuscarora. Kevin played collegiately at
NCAA Division 1 UNC-Wilmington and is a staff coach for FC Frederick.
He is also on staff at Glade ES as a Physical Education teacher.
